Gods are not created equal.
I have never had the supremacy and thunder of Zeus, nor the wisdom and skill of Athena, nor the beauty and allure of Aphrodite. I have never had the power to control weather or any of the elements. I cannot move mountains or tame volcanoes. I am not the keeper of a knowledge or the protector of a people.
What I have is more subtle, and yet more powerful.
I have inexhaustible charisma and likeability.
Zeus allows me to throw lightning with him. Poseidon permits me to ride the waves of the sea with him and his creatures. Artemis lets me join her and her pack in the hunt, running freely through her entire domain. Hephaestus has shown me the secrets of forging lightning bolts and indestructible weapons of iron and uru. Hades has shown me the inner workings of his dark kingdom, as well as the secret passages in, and more importantly, out of the underworld.
I am everybody’s secret favorite.
I am all smiles and charm and enthusiasm, and I am welcome in everyone’s kingdom. I have seen things that no other gods even know exist. I have heard things that no other gods even suspect. I have been privy to much more than I am worthy of, but not a one of them feels it is inappropriate in the slightest.
I have everything I could ever need to overthrow any one of them. If I were to ever desire control of the sea and the krakens, I know that Dionysus, Hermes, and Ares all hold long standing grudges against Poseidon. If I were to ever want the forest for myself, I know that Hera and Aphrodite have lingering jealousy against the woodswoman. I could even take the underworld from Hades if I fancied. All it would take would be a few negligible criticisms here and there, and maybe a tear or two.
I can have whatever I want.
No. Not all gods are created equal. Some of us have been given all the power, and the choice to create or destroy is the only thing standing in the way of accomplishing either.
I am still young.
I have not yet made that decision.
